What Is Zeitgeist ?

Zeitgeist is an evolving blockchain for prediction markets and futarchy (a type of governance that uses prediction markets to arrive at a consensus). The core functionality of the Zeitgeist networks focuses on a decentralized protocol for creating, trading, and resolving prediction markets.

Zeitgeist is a blockchain network that can evolve over time under the control of its decentralized governance system. Part of this governance system will use prediction markets to help inform and enforce the decisions, a type of governance known as “futarchy”. Zeitgeist will include futarchy on the base layer, and so will be the first layer-1 blockchain that is governed natively by futarchy.

Zeitgeist Unique Features

• The governance token which will be used to make binding decisions over the direction of the Zetigeist chain.
• In dispute resolution, it is staked to join the Zeitgeist court system. Holders to stake to join the court can receive rewards for correctly resolving problematic oracles or market disputes.
• As bonds for creation of markets, selecting oracles, joining the council, making treasury proposals, setting on-chain identities, voting, creating DAOs, and other parts of the protocol.
• As the currency for transaction fees.

Roadmap

• Q1 2021: Launch the Battery Park testnet

The Battery Park  beta testnet will act as our testing bed as we implement the full logic of testnet. This will also start the testnet incentivization program.

• Q2 2021: Implement Core Logic and Launch Frontend

Core modules of the Zeitgeist blockchain will be implemented over this time such as the court, the futarchy governance mechanisms, and improvements on the prediction market trading.

• Q3 2021: Launch the Zeitgeist network

the Zeitgeist network is anticipated to launch in Q3 2021 via a Kusama parachain lease offering (PLO). The launch of the network would enable the full functionality of the prediction markets and futarchy framework,

• Q4 2021: Zeitgeist Futarchy DAO and Liquidity Mining Programs

Zeitgeist  will launch as the first blockchain to govern itself with futarchy. Additionally, there will start a liquidity mining program that will unlock liquidity in markets across the platform.

Sports and eSports betting sites can allow fans to further share in the excitement of their favorite team by allowing them to trade positions in real time.

Politics

Prediction markets on politics are one of the best mechanisms for aggregating information about political races that we know of. They also allow you to hedge again possible outcomes.

Cryptocurrency

The prices of cryptocurrency are notoriously volatile. Zeitgeist allows traders to take long or short positions on cryptocurrency prices, creating a pseudo-financial contract.

Insurance

Markets for various events can act as decentralized insurance by hedging outcomes.

Startups

It’s difficult to predict whether a particular startup may succeed. Prediction markets can help by allowing traders to take position on the success or failure of them.

Futarchy

Organizations can run their entire decision making process on-chain by acting on the information aggregating principles of prediction markets.

• Parachain Lease: 40,000,000 – These funds are reserved for incentivizing Zeitgeist’s parachain lease on Kusama for the first 6 years. It will likely be paid out to users who lock KSM in continuous interest payments similar to staking.
• Team and Advisors: 15,000,000 – Subject to 24 months vesting with 20% availabe at genesis and 80% on a linear schedule. Under the control of ZeitgeistPM LLC to reward early team members and future employees.
• Zeitgeist Foundation: 15,000,000 – Funds to be used to in developer partnerships programs, as grants to teams that build on Zeitgeist, in future airdrops or sales. Under the control of Zeitgeist Foundation, a non-profit entity separate from ZeitgeitPM LLC.
